Good. That means you are probably not normal, and shouldn't try to be.
Why? You may ask.
Well, we start with the basic assumption that you're a good person and you've worked hard all your life to do things in the best way you knew how at any give time. Yet still, at least at the moment you are reading this, for one reason or another, something's just not right.
We understand that.
Or perhaps you're one of those who are ready for the next step, or a break (from it all).
In any case we are talking about becoming more aware of how the world we live in functions, and how conventional modern life is, well - contradictory to say the least.
Don't blame yourself for the world's failure to operate effectively, but do learn how you can get to the bottom of what's making you suffer, and find a solution that works for you. In that sense, though you may not be the source of your suffering, you are the cure.
Good, so let's start with sugar for example, something that is very common in the modern world. Did you know that it's normal for various authorities and government agencies worldwide refer to sugar as a "legal narcotic," a "poison," and "the most dangerous drug of modern times," and yet it's also just as normal for governemnts to grant subsidies to companies who manufacture it, and corporations to be lauded for huge profits selling it?
Did you know sugar has caused more deaths than all wars in the last 40 years, more deaths than smoking, and is a leading cause of heart disease, diabetes, obesity and cancer, and yet to put it in our foods, and to eat it is considered normal?
Did you know it's normal that the leaders of companies who manufacture sugar or use it in their products are some of the highest paid in the world, and according to one source, the CEO of Coca Cola makes as much as $26,440,990 annually.
Finally, did you know that fizzy drinks are responsible for more than 180,000 deaths worldwide each year? And that it's normal that 80% of premature deaths are a result of lifestyle (diet and physical habits) and are easily preventable?
OK, do you see where this is going? Do you see how it's possible that normal isn't well, so really a grand objective?
Good, then let's take a look at animal agriculture. Did you know it's normal that 45% of the earth's surface and 33% of its water are devoted to livestock, to growing for 1.5 billion cows food enough for 50 billion people?
And that according to the EPA, animal agriculture is also the number one cause of water pollution, and that it's responsible for more water pollution than all other industrial sources combined, and that's normal?
Yes, and did you know it's normal that 91% of Amazon rain forest destruction is for animal agriculture (14,400 acres cut every day), and that animal agriculture is the leading source of carbon-dioxide, nitrous-oxide, and methane emissions - the top three greenhouse gasses?
Did you know that it takes more than 11 times as much fossil fuel to make one calorie from animal protein as it does to make one calorie from plant protein?
In other words, it's normal that the consumption of meat to the extent it is being consumed today is destroying the planet faster and more effectively than anything else, and just as normal, is a diet proven to be behind many major diseases, including heart disease, cancer, and type II diabetes.
Do I need to apologize yet?
It's easy, see. You are woven into a very unhealthy world, and it's very likely your suffering is a product of it's suffering, and just as likely that your suffering is your liberation. This might make sense later. Or when you come see us.
Ok. More. Did you know that in the modern era, at least in the most "developed" country in the world, it's normal that the costs of adverse reactions to prescriptions drugs are greater than all medical costs combined?
And that it's also normal that the third leading cause of death is prescription medication, after heart disease and cancer, in both 2015 & 2016?
And that, of course though we understand it's often out of our hands, and there may be no other option at the time, it's normal for doctors to prescribe to patients with depression and anxiety a drug with leading side effects that include "thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself, unusual changes in mood or behavior, confusion, aggression, and hallucinations?"
Or another, also prescribed for panic and anxiety disorders, a drug with side effects that include "seizures (convulsions), agitation, hallucinations, fast heart rate, overactive reflexes, nausea, vomiting, manic episodes, racing thoughts, increased energy, unusual risk-taking behavior, being irritable or talkative, diarrhea, loss of coordination?"
Gosh. This is crazy.
Did you know that in just one country, Brazil, it's normal that 60 million trees are cut down each year in order to produce cigarettes? And that each year 5,800,000,000,000 cigarettes are produced and that through these, humans breathe at least 4800 identifiable compounds, (such as ammonia, methane, isoprene, butadiene, ethylene, formaldehyde, 3-vinylpyiridine, 23 other aliphatic amines, methanol, volatile ketones, acrolein, etc.) abuse child labor to do so, globally eliminate 480,000 people per, and at a cost of $300 billion per year in just the one country?
And this is normal?
Did you know that the suits and ties we wear, the curtains, the fancy gowns, many of our fabrics are normally cleaned using a known carcinogen (tetrachloroethylene or perchloroethylene), destroying the lives of those who are forced to clean our clothes with it, the world in which we live, and last, ourselves, who wear them and then breathe the gasses they produce?
Did you know that it's normal to create products called fragrances, and put them in air fresheners, laundry detergents, fabric softeners, dryer sheets, disinfectants, dish detergents, all-purpose cleaners, soaps, hand sanitizers, lotions, deodorants, and shampoos, and that they contain a mixture of hundreds of chemicals (as many as 133 Volatile Organic Compounds), some of which react with ozone in ambient air to form dangerous secondary pollutants, and that these 133 VOCs include formaldehyde (linked to cancer ), benzyl acetate (linked to pancreatic cancer), benzyl alcohol (an upper respiratory tract irritant), ethanol (linked to central nervous system disorders), limonene (a known carcinogen) and chloroform (a neurotoxin and carcinogen), among others (Many others)?
And that it's normal to put in one of the aforementioned products - fabric softener - chemicals called "quats" (short for quaternary ammonium compounds) that include such chemical as diethyl ester dimethyl ammonium chloride, dialkyl dimethyl ammonium methyl sulfate, dihydrogenated palmoylethyl hydroxyethylmonium methosulfate and di-(palm carboxyethyl) hydroxyethyl methyl ammonium methyl sulfate, all of which are toxic in one way or another, including to and especially your brain?
Did you know, as a result of all these chemicals, that indoor air quality is often, probably almost always, more toxic than outdoor air quality? That it's normal to live in a toxic environment, and wonder why we're sick (or depressed, or full of anxiety)?
Did you know it's normal in the modern world to destroy the very creatures that keep us humans alive, that bees, hummingbirds, moths, bats, butterflies flies, termites, wasps, worms are necessary for human survival, and we are killing them off quite quickly, especially bees?
Did you know it's normal that we are causing the extinction of between 10,000 to 100,000 species each year, and that half of all species will be gone in 40 years, leaving 8.7 million yet to expire by 2050?
Did you know we call this new normal rate of destruction the anthropocene era?
Did you know it's considered normal to force all children (i.e., every single individual) to take the same test in the same class on the same day, to confirm to one "global" standard enforced at one moment, and wonder why it's not working?
Did you know that almost 15% of US adolescents (compare with 2.9% in Netherlands & 2.0% Germany) are treated with psychotropic medication (antidepressants, anti-anxiety) and this is normal?
Did you know it's normal that only 8 people in the world own half of all global assets, and that in 2016 it was 62?
Did you know it's normal to foster dependence upon automobiles for transport and yet automobiles create 60 million tons of carbon monoxide, 10 million tons of nitrogen oxides, 30,000 deaths, and 3 million injuries, at a total cost in externalities between $167 billion and $1.483 trillion in just one country every year?
Did you know it's normal to add benzophenone, ethyl acrylate, eugenyl methyl ether, myrcene, pulegone, pyridine, and styrene, into food - and, yes, eat it?
Do you really want to be normal?
