If You Can't Eat It, Don't Put It On Your Skin

Looking good is important in our society! Hopefully, looking natural, healthy and happy is getting back into fashion.

There has always been some form of mutilation of the female body. As my 17 year old daughter said,

"What's the difference between the Chinese women’s binding of their feet and todays breast enlargements or putting deadly substances on our skin?"

Our grandkids are going to laugh at us. They'll incredulously ask, "did you really put parabens and propylene alcohol on your skin?"

We'll shake our heads, "…but we didn’t know better! We wanted to look and smell good!"

It happened before: things we thought were harmless became dangerous. Hopefully the awareness comes soon, like it did with DDT and smoking.

The worst and most common substances to stay away from are:

  • Parabens, BHA, BHT (preservative)
  • Phthalates (fragrances and perfumes)
  • Sodium Laureth Sulfate or other ending in “-eth” (for foaming).

I could make the list much longer.

Google these, and make a habit of checking the crazy chemicals in your everyday products. Prefer to not spend time on it? Then don’t buy any funny names.

Here are two pages, one from a cancer fund, and the other from an environmental activist and scientist from Canada, David Suzuki, who has taught me a lot in this area.
